Это дает широкие возможности для анализа и сравнения производственных показателей , а также оценки инвестиционной привлекательности компаний, в том числе официально не публикующих отчетность. Крупнейшие вертикально-интегрированные компании России и СНГ в отчете рассмотрены более подробно, на уровне дочерних компаний.

Информация в отчете имеет разбивку по странам, что позволяет проводить оценку их нефтегазового комплекса и строить прогнозы развития отрасли на страновом и региональном уровнях. Статистика по нефтегазовой промышленности таких стран, как Азербайджан и Туркмения является закрытой информацией, но в Нефтегазовом статистическом ежегоднике она отражена в полной мере и получена и достоверных внутренних источников.
